With a deep commitment to improving eye health, GOA fosters professional growth and creates opportunities for members to stay at the forefront of the optometry field.
Mission
Our mission is to become a reputable and respected professional body in Ghana that promotes the interests of optometrists and advances the practice of optometry with the highest level of professionalism.
History
The Ghana Optometric Association (GOA) was formed in 1997 with the vision of advancing the profession of optometry, ensuring the highest standards of care, and raising public awareness about the importance of eye health. Spearheaded by visionary optometrists, the GOA was founded to unify the optometry community in Ghana and create a platform that advocates for professional recognition, regulation, and development.
Key Milestones
Our journey began with the leadership of our first president, Dr. Julius Darko, and we’ve since achieved several key milestones.
The association was established to bring together optometrists across the country, ensuring a unified voice that could advocate for the profession and its role within Ghana's healthcare system.
GOA played a pivotal role in securing legislative recognition for optometry in Ghana and helped establish regulatory bodies to oversee the profession.
We prioritize ongoing professional development through workshops and seminars to ensure our members stay current with the latest technologies and practices in eye care.
GOA educates the public on eye health, emphasizing the importance of regular eye exams and preventative care.
We partner with international optometric organizations such as the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and the African Council of Optometry (AFCO) to enhance standards and share global knowledge.
