Membership

Becoming a member of GOA grants you access to a wealth of professional development opportunities, networking, and exclusive resources. Whether you're a practicing optometrist or a student, we offer different membership categories to suit your needs.

This membership is opened to all applicants holding qualifications in optometry, from institutions in and outside the country recognised by the Association and who are legible to practise optometry in Ghana.

This membership is opened to student optometrists.
i. Associate Members shall be entitled to all privileges of membership, including the right to attend and contribute to meetings of the Association.
b. An Associate Member however, shall not be eligible or nominate any one for an electable position, to vote, or be voted for to any electable position.

This membership may be conferred on any full member who in the opinion of the Association, has rendered valuable service to the profession of optometry or has significantly contributed to the advancement of optometric knowledge. The selection of members for fellowship shall be determined by a committee set up for that purpose from time to time. Fellows shall retain all privileges of full membership.

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections (a), (b) and (c) of this article, the Association may grant Honorary membership or Honorary Fellowship to any person who not being an optometrist, contributes to the progress and development of optometry and allied sciences.

This membership may be opened to individuals, institutions or bodies who represent special optometric interests but do not fall within categories a – d.

History

The Ghana Optometric Association (GOA) was formed in 1997 with the vision of advancing the profession of optometry, ensuring the highest standards of care, and raising public awareness about the importance of eye health. Spearheaded by visionary optometrists, the GOA was founded to unify the optometry community in Ghana and create a platform that advocates for professional recognition, regulation, and development.
